Shanghai Museum which had collections of ceramics, bronze, jade, furnitures and a special Ancient Olympics Exhibit from the British Museum. Plenty of greek mythologies and naked men frolicking. The queue to get in was awfully long.

The walking street paved with tiles and rows of shops and malls on both sides.

We had Hong Kong dim sum at Royal Meridien and met some of the Singaporeans who are working in Shanghai.

Then, it was ‘goodbye Shanghai, hello Beijing’ on our comfy sleeper train. The train ride was close to 12 hours but the beds were really comfortable with huggable blankets and soft pillows. One way ticket was about 98 SGD/ person and much better than taking a flight.

Shanghai Part 1 May 28, 2008

Both Shanghai and Beijing were very enjoyable and I think both deserve to be called great cities. I think, in my heart, I believe the China story… I do buy it. China is one country that has the ability to keep worldwide inflation down (except oil) and balance the power play between the East and West and it is moving so so fast.

Everyone went a little mad at the tailors, I tailored 1 cashmere winter coat, 1 spring coat, 1 black suit, extra pencil skirt and 4 shirts for S$340. That is like 1.5 shirt or 1/2 suit. The Chinese are damn good at fakes, they can fake branded goods, pirated books, pirated DVDs…they can even tailor the latest Chanel cloak for you in one week. Now, they need to start having something that they can call their own.

Finally, I am back in Singapore, where they don’t ban blogspot and wordpress. It is very odd that China bothers to ban blogs when I think that there are so many avenues where information can flow through. I miss wordpress…mwahhh.. And pictures of Beijing and Shanghai will be up soon when Winston passes me our photos.

Finally, after a long long while, we meet again. I miss Yiwen and her psychotic rantings and the easy happy feeling of talking and talking. Then, there is Mollie, bitchy as ever and a good friend through all times.

I had the wagyu foie gras burger and I urged Shan to get the salmon & rissoto. The burger was un- spectacular. The beef patty was Billy Bomber’s quality and I would prefer the foie gras as a separate dish. The combination made the normal burger better but wholly not worth the price tag of close to 40SGD. The sticky date pudding was wonderfully sweet and a must- try.

Patrick’s Birthday May 11, 2008

First, it was Martinis at Mortons then dinner at Paulaners. The Appletini was fabulous but the frequency of the steak sandwiches left much to be desired. ‘Free flow of sandwiches’ is such a misrepresentation, ‘restricted flow’ would better describe the offer.

Dinner at Paulaners was good as usual.
